Second Graders Having Sex In The Classroom With Teacher Present

Whatever happened to just an innocent classroom of learning?
In Oakland, CA an investigation is under way at Markham Elementary School. Second grade students were allegedly engaged in oral sex in the classroom. They reportedly stripped off some of their clothes during class. The police investigation began when parents were notified of the situation in a letter on Thursday.

The second-grade teacher has been placed on leave from the school and has been barred from the campus. The male teacher, who's name has not been released told investigators he did not see any of the acts that authorities suspect occurred last week.   "We believe if the reports are true, there was a serious lapse of judgment or lack of supervision in the classroom," said Troy Flint, a spokesman for the Oakland Unified School District. "We're investigating how could this have happened. It seems unthinkable to us, just the same way it does to the public."

I am outraged that this could happen in the classroom right in front of the teacher. How much commotion could have been going on for him not to have seen two children having oral sex? Didn't he notice them taking clothing off?

  4. I mean kids are naturally curious about their bodies n the bodies of others (think back to... "l'll show u mine if u show me urs") but to perform oral sex is clearly something that's been observed so the parents of the kids need 2 be investigated as well!

  7. Oh and he caught it but it was too late, they were already done. LOL The messed up part is that the parents found out through a letter. Not even in person.

  8. I am a teacher. I was accused of beating a child with a stick in my classroom. The child had welts all over her back. I was very very lucky that I had a student teacher in my room at the time as a witness. It turned out later that the child had been beaten by her uncle. Children often accuse someone else of doing something that someone else is doing because that is the way they are less afraid to express themselves.

And who on earth would be letting their 7- and 8-year olds watch Skins? Seriously! No? Then how do you think this child (who reported it) or the children (who are accused of performing the act) have the slightest clue what to do or how to describe it to an adult.

I once had a Kindergarten (!) student get up on a table in the center of the room to announce to the class that he knew that the wiener goes in the hole of the woman! Yes, of course I reported it immediately and CPS was called in. Another teacher had two children bring porn to school for Show-and-Tell because they thought it was normal! (and CPS had to be called again. Seriously, where do you think this stuff comes from?

I am not saying that what has been reported isn't possible, but it scares me to think that everyone immediately not only believes the worst, but has been working themselves up to make it even worse than was reported.

  9. Thank you very much for your comment. It is so interesting to read the viewpoint of a teacher with such insight for a situation like this. I am glad you shared. I will re-post the blog posts so others can read your experience.

  10. parents fault 1st. school boards fault 2nd. kids fault 3rd...
these kids need home training in morality. thier parents are probably working 2 jobs and dont give the time it takes to raise a child properly. parents should teach their children right from wrong, not leave that up to a failing educational system.
i sometimes wonder how teachers let so much stuff get by in the classrooms. but as i remember from school, theres too many students in one classroom. its nearly impossible for the teacher to see everything. the schools fire all the teachers and stuff kids in rooms with class sizes comparable to college classes.
then again kids are just curious, and with all information readily available on the internet its easier to learn the wrong things.
    so its everyones fault.

  11. I am sorry to the point of tears. Class sizes are too large. 30 is too many for one class. Too few jobs and too little tax dollars going to the schools - build fewer jails - hire more and better qualified teachers!

However - look to the parents first. I blame the "Peterson Presumption." Its too strict of a standard. Its probably too late to salvage the parents - but lets protect the kids. I wish I had the means to educate and protect them all. The love is free.
